11 DAY ROUTE FROM EGYPT TO CANAAN Day 9 Ten Commandments

And so God kept me awake so  I can work through the Ten Commandments before I go to sleep.

 

Exodus 20 King James Version

² I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

³ THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

I  The Lord demands that I have not other gods before Him.

I  Television is one of them – watching movies all the time

I  The point is that nothing else can qualify as god in your life

I  Other gods can also constitute things we place higher than God in our lives. The Bible defines these as idols, and they can be anything from money and possessions to food and working out or people and relationships. Anything or anyone we place above God is another god. 

I  "In Modern times," Dolores Smyth wrote, "this Commandment is a warning against elevating money

I   or other worldly things to god-like status in our lives."

I  We could include social media, the Internet, shopping, coffee, or even our gym memberships.

I  Anything we are tempted to find happiness and peace in other than God is a lie that will end up failing us. 

⁴ THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, OR ANY LIKENESS OF ANY THING THAT IS IN HEAVEN ABOVE, OR THAT IS IN THE EARTH BENEATH, OR THAT IS IN THE WATER UNDER THE EARTH.

I  No image must be made to show God

I  Who can make the image of God, because is so much greater than any image we can make of Him.  He differentiates Himself from other Gods here.

⁵ THOU SHALT NOT BOW DOWN THYSELF TO THEM, NOR SERVE THEM: FOR I THE LORD THY GOD AM A JEALOUS GOD, VISITING THE INIQUITY OF THE FATHERS UPON THE CHILDREN UNTO THE THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATION OF THEM THAT HATE ME;

I  I must not serve any other God

I  I may not bow down before them or serve them because God is a jealous God

I  God will let bad things happen to our third and fourth generation of those that hate Him.

I  So... never hate God, but follow His commandments completely.

⁶ AND SHEWING MERCY UNTO THOUSANDS OF THEM THAT LOVE ME, AND KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.

I  He will have mercy on those that love Him and keep His commandments.

I  If I really love God, His commandments are not difficult to follow.

⁷ THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN; FOR THE LORD WILL NOT HOLD HIM GUILTLESS THAT TAKETH HIS NAME IN VAIN.

L  You may not use the Lord’s Name in vain

L  If you do, or even listen to a movie that uses the Lord’s Name in vain, you are guilty before God!!

L  It is just not worth it to use His Name in vain.

⁸ REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY.

⁹ SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK:

¹⁰ BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES:

I  Keep the sabbath holy.

I  No one must work

I  Everyone must think about God on this day and remember God on this day

I  The Lord has blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

I  So we ought to go to church on the sabbath and think of our God and Savior the whole day.

 

¹¹ FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY: WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT.

¹² HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER: THAT THY DAYS MAY BE LONG UPON THE LAND WHICH THE LORD THY GOD GIVETH THEE.

I  Always have respect for your father and mother

I  Honor them with everything in you,because God gave you your father and mother

I  If you do honor your father and mother, you will live longer.

¹³ THOU SHALT NOT KILL.

I  Killing with a knife, gun, whatever

I  You may not even think about killing, because that is as good as killing the person already

I  Do not even think about killing in your heart – least the devil hear you and get you into situations where you will be able to kill

I  Do not kill people with your words too!!

¹⁴ THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

I  God has chosen your soulmate for you

I  You shall not sleep with another or even think of another

I  If you had to divorce for whatever reason, you must not get another husband, because in God's eyes you are still married

I   

¹⁵ THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.

I  Steal anything from anyone – even a small thing as a pencil

I  Stealing is stealing –whether it is big or small – it is stealing

I  Even stealing someone else ideas is still stealing

I  God will provide for your needs if you follow Him

I  Never steal or even think of stealing!!

¹⁶ THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOUR.

I  Bearing false witness puts your neighbor in a hot spot

I  Do not turn against your neighbour or tell false things because someone else wants to protect themselves.

I  Always be honest, even if honesty is not always that nice.  Rather say it as it is and do not get your neighbor into trouble with other people.

¹⁷ THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR'S HOUSE, THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR'S WIFE, NOR HIS MANSERVANT, NOR HIS MAIDSERVANT, NOR HIS OX, NOR HIS ASS, NOR ANY THING THAT IS THY NEIGHBOUR'S.

I  Learn to be contempt with everything you got from God

I  Do not ever dream about wanting your neighbor's house, or anything of your neightbor, especially not his wife or husband.

I  Refrain from doing that and show God that You are content with what He has given you.

I  You do not know to what lengths your neighbor went to to get some of the things that he has.

I  Stay in God and He will show you a better way!!

Thank You Lord for the Ten Commandments that show us a better way!!  But thank You so much more for sending Jesus so that He could pay with His blood for me to be free!!!
